West Ham vs Millwall is one of the fiercest rivalries in the world of the Beautiful Game, so fierce in fact that Hollywood made a film(Green Street Hooligans) about an American who experiences first hand what happens when these two meet. These two teams played each other again today. West Ham won 3-1 at Upton Park, although they needed extra time to do it because Millwall held them to a 1-1 draw through the 90 minutes. Now in usual fashion the two teams had a punch up at the end of and even during the match which included fans invading the pitch on three seperate occasions, clashing outside the stadium, a man stabbed and hundreds being arrested for disorderly and hooligan conduct. And now the FA(Football Association) are going to make fools of themselves by launching an investigation(and I’m sure The Honourable Sepp Blatter, head of FIFA, will make a show of himself at some point as well seeing as how he can’t keep his nose out of anything). Why? We know why it happened. We know that it always happens when they meet. We know it could have been much worse, the man stabbed is in stable consition, because there have been deaths in the past. And we know it will happen again. The FA don’t need to look into anything. If it was between Stoke and Southampton then maybe because they are miles apart and have no former spats except the odd punch up between drunken lunatics, which you get at every match. And to top off the list of reasons we don’t need an investigation is that the police sorted it out on the day. So next time West Ham and Millwall play each other, watch and I can guarantee hooliganism, fighting, pitch invasions, and the FA making fools of themselves yet again, and possibly, this happened a couple of times in the 80’s and 90’s(so I’ve been told), fighting mascots, and who doesn’t want to see that?
