The Champions League Draw

The Champions League draw happened today and I must say it looks bloody exciting this year. Usually we see matches like Maccabi Haifa versus CSKA Moscow(nothing wrong with those teams, just not the Manchester Uniteds or Real Madrids of the world) at this stage. Well!, not anymore.

Group A:

Bayern Munich, Juventus, Bordeaux, and Maccabi Haifa

A very interesting group, especially when Juve’ and Bayern play each other. And even the French runners up and Israeli Champions add that unpredictability that could humble the two giants.

Group B:

MANCHESTER UNITED, Besiktas, Wolfsburg, CSKA Moscow

I’m excited for United, this should be a group we can qualify in, but complacency is not a good thing.

Group C:

AC Milan, Real Madrid, Marseille, FC Zurich

Now this is the group to watch for entertainment. The Spanish and Italian runners up, also two teams that traded players who will play their old teams for the 1st time, the French Champions, and the Swiss champions. I’ll be keeping my on this one, after Group B.

Group D:

Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Porto, APOEL Nicosia

Should be an interesting group, pretty equal teams( I have no idea who APOEL is, sorry APOEL fans) so should be tough for all.

Group E:

Liverpool, Lyon, Fiorentina, Debrecen

All good teams, but only one is Champion of their country and it’s not any of the ones you would think. It’s Debrecen. So it should be an interesting group because of unpredictability.

Group F:

Barcelona, Inter Milan, Dinamo Kiev, Rubin Kazan

This is a group to be watching when Barcelona and Inter Milan play each other. I may not like either team, but it will be an entertaining match again with players playing their old teams. And Dinamo Kiev are the Ukrainian champions and Rubin Kazan are in their 1st ever Champions League, so two more black sheep for the tournament

Group G:

Sevilla, Rangers, VFB Stuttgart, Unirea Urziceni

This may seem like the boring group, but Stuttgart are ex German champions and finished 3rd in the league, Rangers are one of the best Scottish teams, Sevilla is a brilliant Spanish team(when on form), Unirea is very unknown so it adds unpredictability. Could be an interesting group.

Group H:

Arsenal, AZ Alkmaar, Olympiakos, Standard Liege

Another interesting group. The Dutch and Greek champions and the Premier League 4th place, and Standard Liege are champions of their country, so a very competitive league and another to look out for.

That’s the Champions League this year. I’ll definitely be paying attention to most of the competition this time, rather than just United. This is the best Champions League I have seen. Enjoy football fans!
