Saturday Football

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while, but I’m afraid in my absence there has been way too much football to keep track of what with International matches, the Premier League, and the FA Cup I couldn’t even try to keep up with it. So I’ll just stick with today’s matches.

Saturday September 26th

Manchester United 2-0 Stoke

Ryan Giggs was the pivotal player in this match setting up both Dimitar Berbatov and John O’Shea with superb crosses. Definitely still an important player at 35, it will be a shame when he retires at the end of the season. On the bright side though, United are top of the league overtaking Chelsea.

Chelsea 1-3 Wigan

What a surprise result! Chelsea have won every match this season and Wigan have won once, maybe twice and now they come to Stamford Bridge and thrash the team that was top of the table. Football’s a funny old game.

Birmingham 1-2 Bolton

Blackburn 2-1 Aston Villa

Doesn’t seem like a big result, but since Aston Villa have been breaking into the top four this season and last and Blackburn have been floating around 15th for that time for them to beat Villa is almost as big as Wigan beating Cheslea.

Liverpool 6-1 Hull

It was inevitable really. Hull aren’t exactly impressive this season, neither are Liverpool, but Liverpool have the capacity to score where Hull does not.

Portsmouth 0-1 Everton

Another loss for Pompey as they now have 7 straight losses in the Premier League putting them dead last. Let’s hope they can somehow get out of their rut, but it doesn’t look likely since they have been plundered by other teams for their players.

Tottenham 5-0 Burnley

Another entertaining and at times unbelievable day of football today. There is still one match left, Arsenal vs. Fulham, which I will report on tomorrow, but for you Arsenal fans it is 1-0 thanks to Van Persie.
